James Baumer
Development Director (he/him)
James Baumer has over a decade of experience helping organizations grow the resources they need to make change. He’s raised tens of millions of dollars for nonprofits, with a focus on building lasting donor relationships and connecting people to causes they care about.
Prior to Empower Project, James led fundraising efforts at Forward Majority in the 2024 election cycle. There, he was part of a team working to win power for Democrats in the state legislative chambers that serve as a backstop to democracy. Prior to that, he spent seven years working at Giffords, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and Senator Mark Kelly – a particular privilege as a native Arizonan. He held various major gift roles, oversaw national and regional portfolios, and helped grow the team and organization as it advanced its mission of saving lives from gun violence. He got his start in fundraising at Enroll America, a consumer facing campaign to maximize enrollment in the health insurance exchanges established by the Affordable Care Act. He is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
