About Us
Empower Project works to get us back to the foundational roots of organizing. We have assisted groups with Relational Organizing in rural districts, urban and suburban districts, communities of color, and in multiple languages. Most importantly, we partner with progressive organizations and non-profits, and work with leaders already engaged in targeted communities. Relational Organizing is about building real power and a movement that is sustainable beyond the next election, with organizers who will continue to work to ensure their communities thrive.

Our three pronged approach makes Relational Organizing more accessible and scalable
This support is critical to groups that would be forced to choose between staff and tech, a regressive decision the progressive community should try to avoid. This model also brings long term capacity to the table: We ensure our partner organizations can mobilize effectively.

We have supported organizations across 44 states and counting
Half of our partner organizations are focused on organizing BIPOC & youth communities.

“Extremely thankful that we had the opportunity to incorporate relational organizing into our program this year. The help and support gave us hope that we can accomplish more than we have in the past. Without Empower Project, I’m not sure how well we would have done this year.”
– Savana, Florida Conservation Voters
Our History
Over the years, Empower Project coaching specialists have worked with groups in 44 states (plus Washington DC) on how to plan and implement a successful relational organizing program. We have worked with large multi-state national committees with hundreds of staff, to small two-person teams organizing a few zip codes.
With over 10 years of implementing relational organizing, we have learned that there is a sizable gap in organizing knowledge and the way that it is trained and implemented. Over the years, the organizing movement has begun to focus on big data and micro-targeting at the expense of organizing, at times insisting that we only need to communicate to a narrow pool of the electorate. This has left millions out of our organizing programs because they didn’t fit the targeted model. Relational organizing provides a way to expand the reach back out into communities, who have been left behind and are often hard to reach.
